Stolen Bikes Ride Faster - Winning Hearts and Blowing Minds (2008)

Stolen Bikes Ride Faster is a nice punkrock 90's skatepunk band from Brisbane (Australia).
Shaun (guitar, vocals), David (bass, vocals), Ryan (drums) and Ashley (guitar, vocals) have been playing for about five years now more than hundreds of shows in Down Under.

They have released two EPs until now: Winning Hearts and Blowing Minds was released in 2008 via australian Your Daughters Records (just as Local Resident Failure's "Still Sober After All These Beers" 7'')!

If you enjoy listening to bands such as NoFX, The Lawrence Arms or Guttermouth, and don't care too much about lyrics, you will like their tunes!

Venetian (Vicenza/Italy) punk rock/pop punk/skate-punk band "The Sun" (former: Sun Eats Sours) informed us in their last newsletter that they sign to major-label Sony Italy!

Francesco “the President” Lorenzi (vocals, guitar), Riccardo “Trash” Rossi (drums), Matteo “Lemma” Reghelin (bass) and Gianluca “Boston” Menegozzo (guitar, vocals) have been playing for more than twelve years and have one of the biggest fan communities of all italian punkrock bands today. They already toured multiple times through europe and japan, and played with bands like The Offspring, Misfits and AFI.

Before the band will release their new full-lenght via Sony Records in a few weeks, The Sun releases a new radio-single and video-clip at the end of march!

it's 3 am here in wiener neustadt, austria and i just downloaded the final master of our upcoming full length record "HEART TO GROW". i can't possibly describe how exciting it feels right now listening to the result of what we've been writing/working on during the past year!

the album is going to be released in august, which still feels quite far away.
so to kill some time inbetween, we decided to release two 7inches along the way:

"THE SCAVENGER" - 7inch is already available for preorders through JUMPSTART RECORDS. it contains the songs we already put out on a split record together with ATTACK! VIPERS! from the uk in 2008, plus two bonus tracks as digital download. this 7inch is limited to 300 copies.

ZSD @ KAPU Linz 1986

ZSD ("Zielstrebige Degeneration" oder "Ziviler SicherheitsDienst" als Anspielung auf eben diesen, wegen zahlreicher bekanntgewordener Handgreiflichkeiten in den 80er) war eine Münchner Punkbank, die zwischen 1980-1987 existierte.

Die damaligen Gründungsmitglieder waren Wix (vocals + guitar), Ziggy Storbeck (bass), und Seppi (drums), der später mit Roman „Riondo“ Holler ausgetauscht wurde, bzw. spielte dieser auch gemeinsam mit Ziggy bei der Lohhofer Punkband "LustfingeR".

Kurz vor ihrer Auflösung gaben ZSD am 11.Jänner 1986 noch ein Konzert in der KAPU Linz, wovon ich einen fetten Mitschnitt für euch bekommen hab.

Grace.Will.Fall - Selftitled + Second Album

The hardcore-punk band Grace.Will.Fall was formed in in 2002 in Jönköping (Sweden) by Ulf Blomberg (vocals), Axel Svensson (bass), John Andersson (drums), Samuel Enocsson (guitar) and Björn Isaksson (guitar), with the targeted objective to combine punk, hardcore and rock’n’roll in their music.

They have already released a 7'' split with Counterblast in 2004, and another 7'' split with M:40 in 2006 before recording their first powerful full-lenght album (selftitled), and crossing Europe for their first time. Until 2008 Grace.Will.Fall did 50 shows in 7 different european countries!

In the meanwhile, they also worked for the new "second ablum", which was finally released in 2009. Now they are on tour, doing shows across all european clubs, and working for a third album.

Austrian (Saalfelden, Salzburg) melodic-poppunk/punkrock band 7 Years Bad Luck were part of a TV-show on german/bavarian television broadcaster "BR-alpha" for a program named "on3-südwild".

They played two live song (including one brandnew songs!) on a small stage in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Joa, die kanadische Melodic-Hardcore-Band High Five Drive kommen im April nach Österreich!

Nach dem FullBlast Album und ihrer letztjährigen Tour durch Europa, haben High Five Drive bereits in mehreren Interviews bekannt gegeben, auch 2010 mit Fond Of Life und No Reason Records zusammenarbeiten zu wollen um eine neue Platte zu veröffentlichen. Das geht natürlich einher mit diversen Shows, deren Termine bereits stehen.

Forus Interview on French Television

French ultrafast and technical skatepunk band Forus have uploaded a new video on their Youtube-Account.

Rémi - drummer (and second vocalist) of Forus - was interviewed about music and the band on a french television broadcaster. However my french is too bad to understand more, but i have already asked a guy for translation into english, which will be posted soon :-).

The only thing i can understand is, that the interviewer says the band's name in an incorrectly french pronunciation (forüs) instead of "for-us".

Tribute To Belvedere

After more than 2 years of yearning for the announced Belvedere-Tribute, Michel (bandmember of Forus, vocals + guitar) has finally organised and completed the long awaited "A Tribute To Belvere" Comp!

Rumors came up that the Tribute (and the probably most amazing and exciting record in 2010) will be already released in April 2010 via Bells On Records! The cover artwork (pic on the left) is done by John, guitarist for This Is A Standoff.

On the Tribute-To-Belvedere-MySpace-Site is a nice teaser uploaded for you, with cuttings of all songs. There are some really awesome fast songs on it (personally, i enjoy the Forus, High Five Drive, Waterweed, Play Attenchon and Misled Balds demo versions a lot), and also an acoustic cover (All About Perspectives), which is played by french skatepunk-band StraightAway.

45 bucks for a T-Shirt?

To start with something positive:
This year, punk rock pioneers Bad Religion celebrate their 30th anniversary. They will do a couple of shows in Los Angeles, Anaheim, San Diego and Las Vegas, about their lifes, stories and of course with performing music!

Since 2009, there is a new product line, called "The Music Tee", which combines merchandise-articles (T-Shirts) and (digital) music, in one package. Simply put, you can go to the Music-Tee webstore, search a t-shirt (there are some featured artists), which is in combination with an album art and a tracklist. So, in this package you buy a t-shirt and get an album too.

Everyone who has order albums or merchandise stuff knows, that such packages are nothing special, normally you even get merchandise cheaper, if you buy an album too (and vice versa), and often there are also stickers, posters and flyers included for free.

However the music industry (especially major labels) claims it as a new beginning for digital releases and merchandise-articles; as a revolution to stop (illegal) downloads, and of course as a good new way to gain, since the cd-sales do not bring the big money.

Ordering (for example the Bad Religion t-shirt, with their (digital) debut full lenght "How Could Hell Be Any Worse?") at "The Music Tee" costs 45$! You buy the tee shirts, and when it comes, there is a ticket hanging with an unique url for downloading the album.
Okay, it is good, that the music industry have found new ways to stop their self proclaimed depression, but 45$ is an absolutely brazenness! You can buy t-shirts and albums separatly in (local) webstores much cheaper ...

Christian Friedl (vocals, buitar), Christoph Riebenbauer (guitar, vocals), Constantin Pammer (drums) and Werner Bauernfeind (bass, vocals) formed in 1997 (in Graz, Austria) one of Austria's best-known punkrock bands today; Red Lights Flash.

Soon, they became popular in the scene - also outside of austria: In 2000 they did theit first europe tour together with amercian punkrockers Good Clean Fun. Red Lights Flash also toured and played with bands like Capdown, Anti-Flag (3 times through europe; RLF also signed at A-F Records!), Rise Against, Alexisonfire, Rentokill, A Wilhelm Scream (2 europe-tours), The Unseen, Pipedown and Strike Anywhere.

After 4 years without any news or new songs, Red Lights Flash released an amazing new (DIY) full-lenght album - named For Your Safety - last autumn.

For Your Safety has everything you like: there are strong, raw and fast melodic-hardcore songs, but also fine, elegant pop-punk-sounded tracks on the CD. Certainly with critical lyrics about politics, culture and religion.

En passant, the album was mixed and mastered by Bill Stevenson and Jason Livermore in Fort Collins' Blasting Rooms Studios!

Misconduct - One Step Closer + News

In 1995, Fredrik „Ollo“ Olsson (vocals, guitar), Fredrik Andersson (guitar), Mattias Nielsen (bass) and Jonas „J.C.“ Carlsson (drums) formed the hardcore-punk band Misconduct (in Kristinehamn, Sweden). Until now, they had some member changes in the line-up (today: Ollo, Erik Ydlinger (guitar), Simon Guidoum (vocals, bass) and Daniel Petri (drums)), but their albums got better and better. They have found their unique melodic sound since the "United As One" album.

Yesterday, i read that I Scream Records signs Misconduct! This is very interesting, because the band was signed before at "Side By Side Records", which was founded by Fredrik Olsson's wife Marielle!

At the moment, Misconduct are in the studios for recording their new album "One Step Closer", which will be released in spring 2010, right before they will start their next European tour. Stay tuned for more informations!

Grey Days - Age of Reason (2009)

Hans (drums), Chris (vocals), Ben (bass), and Gijs (guitar) is the current line-up of dutch punkrock band "Grey Days".

Grey Days is risen from the band's ashes of Dependent, Ass If and Hemaroids.

They came from Eindhoven and play mid-tempo 90's punkrock like Bad Religion, Face to Face and Pennywise. Their first album/EP, named Age of Reason, with seven fine and emotional punkrock songs, which was released in 2009/2010, also reminds me of Ignite (especially Chris's voice)!

I really liked their band-description they have sent, so i quote it now to the blog:

Grey Days is a band that holds old friendships and a lifetime passion for punkrock withing their ranks. Playing shows stands for and infectious mix of energy, pleasure and carrying out a message with serious passion.

RIP Play Attenchon (2002-2009)

Very bad news for the skatepunk scene! One of the fastest bands from South America (Lima, Peru) have posted an article at their MySpace-Site that they split up!

Alessandro (drums), Mario (vocals, guitar), Lizardo (guitar, vocals) and José Luis (bass, vocals) finally formed the band in 2005, after some members changes between 2002 and 2005.

Their first Full Lenght "La Ilusión Que Llevas" was released in 2007 (after a couple of demos), and was at first only released in Peru and Japan via Bells On Records, but soon spread out worldwide because of the high demand level!

Play Attenchon have already shared stage with bands like Propagandhi, 69 Segundos, Have Heart, Shipwreck A.D, No Big Deal, and 7 Dice.

They announced to release a new album in 2010, but i'm sorry to say that this is untenable now ...

Please, we don't feel right now like writing an explanation why the band has disolved. We would appreciate if we wouldn't receive messages asking why and all of that. It's due to personal differences, as friends and as performers, things weren't working anymore between us.

We really thank all the people and all the bands who has supported us in sooo many ways during all these years, you guys know exactly who you are and we couldn't start mentioning one by one because this list would be endless.

Holy f*ck, I can't even believe this is happening but sometimes is better to stop things before they start getting worse and worse. Again, I can't stop thanking all of you guys and bands, you made us who we were during the last years: a fucking great skatepunk band.

Some of us may start new musical projects soon that we will obviously keep you informed as soon as they start. Some will probably take different ways but there's no doubt that skatepunk is still a part of some of us. Expect new bands REALLY soon.

Thanks sooo much, sooo sooo much for everything. This hurts more than I'd ever thought. THANKS.

Today, dutch Antillectual sent out a newsletter, about their new bass player Tom (read also this article, i posted a few weeks ago, about Yvo leaving the band), about their (warm) winter tour through south-west europe and their tour togehter with High Five Drive (yeah, they will come to europe in april!).

They add also, that there will be a new Antillectual album out in 2010!

Last Saturday we played our last show ever with Yvo on bass. A crazy sold out show was a nice way to close this chapter. In Tom we found an amazing replacement presenting us a very glourious future ahead. Our first step is a tour that will hopefully get us somewhere warmer.

Dutch Export

Since we are known to tour a lot Buma Cultuur (the Dutch authors- and copyrights organization) mentioned us in their press bulletin announcing that the export of Dutch pop music was raised by 15% in 2008. Read the Dutch version and the English version.

Recording a New Album

A week after we get back from tour we will be entering the studio. It has been almost 2 years since we released our last full length album “Testimony”. We will record 12 new songs with Nico van Montfort at the Erock studio in Panningen. On the upcoming tour and shows we will play a lot of these songs to get them into shape. A release will follow later this year.

Tour with High Five Drive

We never promised to slow down. After we finish recording, mixing and mastering we will embark on another tour. Together with High Five Drive from Canada we will be playing shows in France, the UK and Belgium between April 25 and May 1. Routing to be announced soon. Diverzija - Bloodied But Unbowed (2008)

Diverzija (Osijek, Croatia) was formed in 2002 by Andrej (vocals, guitar), Elke (bass), Remba (guitar, back vocals) and Domba (drums). I don't know exactly to what the name refers to, but it is something like sabotage (saboteur) and subversion, or a counter-revolutionary (if it comes from the russian word "diverzija").

Soon afterwards, they released their first DIY demo called "Demo1", and played their first shows in croatia.

In September 2005 they went in the studio to release their first full-length named "Days of our lives", which was recorded and produced by Filip Serti in the "Depth"-studio in Požega.

Diverzija's latest record "Bloodied but Unbowed" was released in December 2008, and also recorded and produced in the "Depth"-studio in Požega. This album really kicks-ass! If you enjoy listening to melodic-hardcore/punkrock bands like Astpai, Propagandhi, After the Fall, Rentokill, Hit The Switch, or Strike Anywhere, you will love Bloodied But Unbowed, with its direct, raw and social lyrics.

Doping - Wrong Perfection + Self Titled

Here is Doping, a melodic-hardcore - hardcore-punk band from Uschhorod (Ukraine).
Semen (drums), Vova (bass), and Andrew (vocal/guitar) formed the band in 2005 and played shortly after also their first shows in west-ukraine.

Their music is an excellent fast melodic-hardcore sound, with social, personal and everyday-life lyrics.

In October 2007 they recorded their first - selftitled - album which includes 15 awesome fast tracks in less than 30 minutes!

In May 2009 they released their latest album (12 tracks) called "Wrong Perfection". After a great tour through the ukraine and europe, they are planing again a new europe-tour in 2010.

Spanish melodic-hardcore A.i.D was formed in 2005 in Barcelona "as a result of their member's desire to embark on a new project with a more aggressive sound than that of their former bands".

Muckhole - Where's The Corndogs? EP + Kooza + Fresh Muck

Here is an amazing, absolutely great band from the scene in New Zealand.
Sean O'Brien (vocals), Jason Ennor (drums), Aaron Peck (bass) and Scott Patterson (guitar) formed Muckhole in the 90s surfing skatepunk scene and released 3 albums until 2000.

They have already played together with punkrock-legends like Pennywise, Green Day or The Offspring. Sean also claimes that they were really influenced by Pennywise, as they played their shows in NZ.

"We liked the wavelength they were on, just turning up in New Zealand, do a couple of shows, go surfing, drink beer and get stoned. They were genuinely interested in us. Out of all the bands we’ve supported they’re the only ones that were an influence on us. They were semi-idols, I suppose. We respected them musically."

You can also here this in their songs. Especially the last album "Fresh Muck" is simply awesome and some of their songs reminds me totally of Pennywise!

Standing Still - Draw Your Line (2007) vs. Mind Your Head

After four years of making great fast music, some changes in the band's line-up, and a great Spain-Tour together with Straightaway, italian skatepunkers Standing Still decided to split in July 2008.

Their album Draw Your Line was one of the best (and fastest) melodic-hardcore/skate-punk albums in 2007. Maybe you also know their song "Cock Block" from the IndieBox Compilation.
Hence, you should keep their name and their sound in mind, and you should not forget them. So, at the end of this posting is a nice download link for you ... ;-)

In the meanwhile, the two guitarists Bonjo and Tiello (also background vocals) made a new band called Mind Your Head. They did not do skatepunk anylonger. It is more like a new hardcore sound; reminds me of a local band here called Outsmarted. Watch the following new video from the song: "The Last Day (Revenge)".

?Nach 6 jahren ist es nun soweit, wir haben beschlossen die heidenspass festival serie sowie grill'n'roll & frozen amps zu beenden. aus einer betrunkenen idee entstanden, waren es 6 jahre in denen wir viel spaß hatten, mit großartigen leuten zusammenarbeiten konnten, interessante leute kennenlernen durften, sehr sehr viel gelernt haben, und hoffentlich einigen leuten ein paar feine tage & erinnerungen beschert haben! wir haben wirklich lange um eine entscheidung gerungen und denken das das jetzt die richtige ist. wir werden uns mal vorerst anderen, alten und neuen projekten widmen, wer weiß viell. auch früher oder später wieder die eine oder andere veranstaltung machen, aber jetzt mal nach dem motto "aufhören wenns am schönsten ist" die serie der heidenspass.at events beenden.

wir möchten uns natürlich bei allen leuten bedanken die bei den events dabei waren und vorallem bei all jenen die das festival 6 jahre lang durch mitarbeit im vorfeld/vor ort, durch ideen und sonstigen input oder einfach nur freundliche worte ermöglicht und unterstützt haben, you know who you are!

ein großes danke natürlich auch an alle (~75) bands & dj's die uns seit 2004 beehrt haben!

und damits nicht ganz so plötzlich aus und vorbei ist, gibts noch eine kleine "abschiedsfeier" und zwar am 09.01.2010 @ the loft! Das Chilibox DJ Team wird uns wie gewohnt mit Musik aller Punk, Hardcore, Ska & Rock´n´Roll versorgen ;)

Wasted Scars is Dead

The origins of IN-SANE go back to the year 1997 in Gornja Radgona, Slovenia, where a bunch of kids who were into punk rock formed a band heavily inspired by NOFX, Bad Religion and Millencolin. The early years of IN-SANE featured some personell changes, but they eventually formed a steady lineup - Dario (guitar, vocal), Máteja (bass, vocal) and Shaggie (drums). Soon they started to follow their own path, creating their own approach to punk rock, which got labeled as heart-core.

On their new record, IN-SANE remained loyal to their own formula of energetic punk rock, enriched with plenty of hardcore/emo/rock elements and rhythmical twists that give their music special dynamics and charm. Yoyo, i'm back from skiing.

I really enjoyed the last three days, although it was perishing cold here. -25°C are low temperatures even in the Alps, but I didn't give a rat's ass on it, and was riding the hole days (and sleeping early in the evening hehe), and nearly got some bad frozen toes. :-P

So, but now i can post some stuff for you again on the Skate-O-Phobia blog.

2 weeks ago i was riding on the locals trails when the first snow of this season fell down.

On the left, a picture which was taken (unfortunately only with the cam of my mobile-phone) at the end of the trail, when i was completely iced, because of the low temperatures now hehe.

Thankfully there is now enough snow for skiing here in Austria, therefore i spend the next three days with skiing :-)
Maybe i take some photos, and post it here next week!

Punkorama #19 in Linz

Am Dienstag dem 05.Jänner 2010 ist es wieder so weit. Die Punkorama Konzertserie im Posthof Linz geht in die nächste Runde!

Bei der mittlerweile 19. Ausgabe geben sich die österreichischen Bands Outsmarted, Defcon, Leslie Act Thriller und To Be Continued die Ehre, um den Saal einmal mehr so richtig zum Beben zu bringen.

Auf Outsmarted könnt ihr gespannt sein, schließlich zogen sie sich in letzter Zeit etwas zurück, um eine neue Full-Lenght aufzunehmen (neue Songs bereits auf MySpace!), die demnächst veröffentlicht werden soll.

Defcon arbeiten zur Zeit ebenfalls an einem neuen Album, waren jedoch auch schon bei der Punkorama #18 im Oktober mitdabei. Damals u.a. mit Law Found Guilt.

Protestsongcontest 2010

A new austrian music-event was formed the first time in 2004 on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the so-called "12.-Februar-Unruhen" (for more information click here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Austrian_Civil_War).

Participating bands (most of them are Austrians, but there were also bands from Germany and Switzerland in the past) write critical songs about society, environment, globalization, surveillance and xenophobia, and the finals are also broadcasted on the national radio-station FM4.

The organizer are searching now bands for the ProtestSongContest 2010 until January.

Polar Bear Club + Shook Ones + Title Fight in Wien

Macht den Mund wieder zu; das ist kein Scherz!

Am 24.Feber 2010 kommen Polar Bear Club, zusammen mit den genialen Bands Shook Ones und Title Fight nach Europa (weitere Tourdaten unten) und besuchen dabei auch die Bundeshauptstadt.

Letztes Jahr in Wien waren sie noch Vorband von The Gaslight Anthem, jedoch werden die fünf Polarbären nach dem genialen "Chasing Hamburg" Album (Releasedatum war im September), bereits mit den Hardcorepunk-Legenden Refused verglichen!

Wer also am 24. Feber noch nichts vor hat, sollte unbedingt ins B72 schauen und 15€ in wirklich ausgezeichnete Bands investieren!
